President's Message

2009-2010 Ga. ASCE President Doug Hintz shares his thoughts as he paves the way for incoming President Elect, Jo Ann Macrina.

Another year has come and gone in rapid fashion. This has been an extremely busy year for me as your President but it has given me a new appreciation of how much our Section is involved in.  We continue to focus and expand our participation in a number of activities aimed at reaching our youth so that the next generation of engineers will be ready to follow in our footsteps.  The Skills USA forum is an example of one of the new additions that we have taken on this year.

The Section established a number of new groups this past year including the Sustainability Group, the Round Table Committee (to assist members in career transition) and the South Metro Branch (to tap into the membership who live and work on the south side of Atlanta. We also participated in sending 5 members to Washington for the Legislative Fly In
influencing issues important to you as Civil Engineers.

Our service to YOU, the member, improved this year as well.  Richard Morales and the Continuing Education Committee were very active in offering continuing education credits to our members.

Finally, and certainly not least, our website has taken a significant step forward in providing a repository for news and information about your Section thanks in large part to the work of Bob Heightchew the Communications Committee.

I don’t have the space to mention everyone who has played a significant role in making your Section a more effective advocate for the profession but none of this could have been done without YOU, the volunteers.  If you are interested in helping your profession, networking with others, and enhancing your organizational and leadership skills please contact me by emailor call 404-389-8696.

I have enjoyed my term as your President and have absolute confidence that Jo Ann will also do a great job as you provide her the same level of support that I have enjoyed this past year.  Remember we are all volunteers and need your help to accomplish all of the important programs that this Section offers.
