Topic: Tunneling Solutions & Risk Management Date : Thursday, September 24, 2009 from 6:30 PM until 8 PM Where: Georgia Tech Civil Engineering Mason Building, Room 142A, Directions: http://gtalumni.org/map/ About the topic and speaker: The presentation will cover approach to planning and design of tunnels. It will discuss some of the shaft and tunnel construction methodologies and spend some time discussing various methods for mitigating and managing the risks unique to underground construction with some examples.
Refik Elibay, a Vice President with Jordan Jones & Goulding, is a nationally recognized figure in the tunneling industry. A civil engineering graduate from City College of New York, he has 38 years of experience in tunneling and underground construction in all kinds of geologic formations, including design, cost estimating and construction management. He is a registered engineer in 12 States and has been JJG’s Tunneling Practice Leader for the past 19 years and among many other tunnels around various parts of U.S. he has been directly involved with approximately 50 miles of large SSO and CSO tunnels in the Metro-Atlanta area since 1977.
